Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I hire TerraCare instead of doing it myself?

We've fine-tuned our program over years to suit the central MN area best. It's the same product suite we use on our own lawns because it provides consistent healthy turf over years of care and consistency. Hiring TerraCare ensures consistent application density using specialized equipment. We offer consistent and appropriate rates regardless of material supply. We measure your property accurately down to the square foot, not rounding up or down like other companies, or like you would need to when purchasing product at a big box store.

My other company applied fertilizer frequently throughout the summer. Why do you only apply one fertilizer treatment, and two herbicide treatments?

More frequent fast release applications mean spikes of nitrogen that cause your grass to explode in growth for short time and then fade until the next application. We've chosen a higher quality triple coated extremely slow release (over 30,60,90,120, 180) blend of products that consistently releases nitrogen and other vital nutrients into the soil to keep your turf healthy all year long without huge spikes of growth.

What are the benefits of a lime treatment?

Lime adds necessary nutrients and nourishes essential bacteria in your lawn. This treatment often clears up common grass issues and helps support a healthy, lush lawn.

What is a spot treatment?

Spot treatments are targeted, on-demand herbicide applications that kill problem weeds that survive our blanket herbicide applications.

When will applications be applied?

Fertilizer: We watch ground temperatures closely, and wait until they reach 55 degrees at 6 inches, on an average of 5 days consecutively. We time it properly with Dimension's (pre-emergent for crabgrass control) most effective kill range. Dimension is a post-emergent as well, so we have 6-8 weeks of control after application with confidence.

Herbicide applications are timed with our seasonal weed burst. We usually get dandelions and other weeds in late spring and early summer, and then we're able to kill more resilient weeds (charlie, ground ivy, clover, etc.) with the cooler temperatures in late summer and early fall.*

*All scheduling is subject to weather, and can change at any time.

What is Herbicide?

"Herb" means plant. "Cide" means "to kill". Herbicide's kill specific plants that you don't want in your yard.

Are your products safe for kids and pets? How long should I wait after an application to walk on my grass?

We recommend waiting 24 hours after a fertilizing and/or herbicide application to safely walk and play on your lawn.

How do you measure properties to determine estimates?

We use satellite imagery to measure property size accurately.
